The past couple of week's I've been experimenting and studied new styles I'd like to get familiar with. I think doing the same thing over and over can get very boring. So, I'll continue this method and will upload the images once I'm done with them. With this style I'm trying to portray a more 'kids' friendly look and something that is more modern with a traditional feel to it. I hope I can do it.

Here's a couple of shots I just finished working on for an online contest over at the awesome sixyears later. The theme is 'Surface' so my idea is fairly straight forward. The scene is basically of the earth in six years time and there's this lone soldier dude and his dog who's just chillin' by the ocean with abandoned buildings in the background and suddenly, this beautiful woman came out of the ocean...how would she react when she sees the man and what she has dicovered in the 'surface'.

I wil post the finished colour version IF I make it into the magazine! Well, I think I'll post it anyway later on in the near future.

Anyways, here's a couple of steps from pencil to inks. Cheerio!

Another weekly challenge held at OzComics. Since it's my choice for this week, I decided not go half assed on my submission. I picked this dude because not only he's such a cool looking character but I don't see enough of him in the OZ community. Plus, I want a new poster for my room ;) Done on and off since yesterday morning and finished this evening. Here it is my take of Hellboy! based more off the comic than the movie, hence the 'no pupil' eyes. I've included the steps for those who may be interested to see. Cheers!

Ahooy!

Long time no post, sorry about that. I've been busy with work, worked on some cool storyboards for tv ads the past couple of weeks. The last one I did has to be the toughest one, it was done for animatics boards, but I love it since the clients are very easy going and left me with a lot of creative freedom. I also worked on a couple of concept art and boards for an upcoming Australian feature film, set to be an awesome one I reckon!

Anyway, here's a piece I did for an online competition, I don't know what's going on with it actually. I based it off one of the characters I have in my comic GRIT

I used to work in McDonald's for 2 years. So it was in my blood. One time I went to order a meal at Hungry Jacks; 'can I get a whopper meal please'. The worker asked ' ok, that's $5.95'. Then I replied, 'eat in or take away?' she looked at me strangely, thinking that I was being a smartass when it was actually more like a reflex.

Well, it was a great weekend! Can't complain really. Forced Hand comic was very well received by people that saw and purchased it, so thanks for that. Met a lot of new faces as well as familiar ones!
I also got my complimentary Velocity anthology book! It looks amazing! Those who hasn't seen/heard the book, check this out; http://www.gaining-velocity.com/. Was also good catching up with the talented Jeff 'Chamba' Cruz! We ate a lot of food and spent time just arting. The Crew from The Tunnel movie also came by and visited me, which was very cool! haven't seen them in a while. Speaking of which, The Tunnel is a super movie! Pretty freaky and I watched it during the day! Lucky it wasn't at night!

My thoughts after the show is that I should finish my comic either before the end of the year or early next year, GRIT since a few people have been asking for it and telling me to hurry the hell up and finish the first issue already!

Thanks to those who stopped by, talked to me and those who commissioned skecthes from me and bought my books and prints. Hope to see you all again next time!

Ahoy!
I figured I shouldn't neglect my creator owned comic I started last year, so I decided to create this piece which could be a possible cover for issue 1.

I've taken progress shot as I go just in case people would like to see how I work when it comes to painting digitally. I've been working on doing a lot of ink and black & white stuff lately so this is a good break for me.

1. Sketch

2. Blocking in colours

3. Checking for values in greyscale

4. Begin rendering

5. Flipping canvas now and then, to check proportion and work on the lightings

6. Adding details as I keep on painting

7. Added textures and blur here and there

8. Done with the painting and add the title

I've been feeling pretty blessed lately. I have finally moved out again and I'm loving it! My room's pretty epic, 'cos my workspace is now bigger! My girlfriend helped me a lot throughout everything. I can now think clearer in this new place, I feel like I'm free. I still haven't finished unpacking, since I've been busy with work, did an all nighter on an urgent storyboad for an overseas company, did a 50+ metres mural/chalk with my colleague and finishing up FORCED HAND, which is finally underway at the printers. All of those happened on the same week I moved into the new place. I really can't complain, life's is good. I hope I will be blessed with more opportunities.

Well, every year I would do a portrait for my beautiful woman, Adriana. I do it whenever it's her birthday. I couldn't do it for her birthday this year, 'cos I was too busy with other things. I finally did it today. She's always been there for me and being with her makes me happy. This is the third portrait.

Epic sequentials part.1

I've been studying a lot of comics more and more lately. Thought I'd share why I look at Manga when I'm in need for an inspiration when it comes to 'pacing'. I think the Japanese are really good at telling stories as oppose to just drawing 'awesome' pictures in comic books. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of US and European comics who are also masters at story telling too!

Here's a few pages from a few mangaka masters I look up to. These guys are not only amazing artists but they're so good at story telling.

Matsumoto's 'A revolutionist in the afternoon'. So much going on and he does it well. So much details in his work.

Nihei's 'Biomega'. One of the best manga I read. The story gets confusing after a while, but the artwork is just amazing.

Otomo's 'Visitors'. Most of the pages are viewed from one of the characters POV, as shown here. Have never seen this POV sequential done as well as this.

Samura's 'Bradley's Coach'. This manga is twisted, really just out there! The characters are so believable, it may not be some people's cup of tea though since it's pretty explicit.

Sometimes, I feel so demotivated. Mainly because I feel tired from sitting down in front of the computer. Everytime I feel like I want to just laze around (is that even a term?) I find it hard, 'cos I feel like I have to keep working on my art to better myself. Sometimes I feel like my art is so cool and sometimes I feel like it's not so cool. When that happens I feel down and feel confused...but then...

Jealousy amongst artists or creatives is pathetic in my opinion. There's no reason to hate on other artists just because they're doing something you wished you did! This isn't something I'm speaking for myself, but just things I've seen online and I've noticed more and more of it lately. You got some news on how to better yourself as an artist? Then share it! Someone has landed an awesome gig? Go and congratulate them and support their journey! There's no point on being spiteful and think; 'yeh, I coud do that'. Well, are you?

All I'm saying is it isn't healthy, especially here in Australia where we're all trying our best to show the world what we can do. So why fight each other to be that 'next big thing'? Why not do it together? Let help one another, huh!?

Anyway, here's a quote by animator extraordinaire that would some up all this.

Ahem...
Just got back from the city hanging out with my gorgeous girlfriend. I managed to score two awesome artbooks, ASHLEY WOOD'S METAL GEAR SOLID AND JOJO'S BIZZARE WORLD which I got for only $5! Yoo hoo bargain!
Anyway, it's good to take time off work and just refresh my mind by doing other things. Most of the time though, I'd be checking out the comic shop or bookstores and whenever I pick up a book, I would get so inspired and all I think about is that, I should be working!

On other note, I'm finishing up an art piece to raise awareness of what's happening in Japan. I'm thinking of wheter I should just sell it as a digital comission piece or actual print, which would be a lot more hassle for me but obviously would be more expensive.

Japan has always been a part of me. I have never been there, although it is the number one destination for me. I grew up reading manga and watching anime. They're what inspired me to do what I do today. I have also loved their culture and how respectful they are as people. It really saddened me to see what happened to them. I hope they will get back to the way they were somehow...

Here's a work in progress shot of it;

Look at this very touching video of a dog who refuses to leave his injured friend behind after the tsunami. This is something a lot of people could learn from. I find it shocking and ridiculous that, when I watch the news I flick to one channel it shows the devastation of Japan and then I click to another it shows the war and protests in the middle east, people killing one another, brawls at nightclubs maybe because one of dude was staring another dude's girlfriend, even though it's probably not his fault because she's wearing something that shows even she doesn't seem to respect herself! I mean, come on world! What's going on up in here?! This all occurs on the same day as the tsunami! Why can't you take a break from hurting one another and instead HELP one another!

I'm proud to share with you my current project! I am illustrating a graphic novel, Written by Miguel Le Maire. It's been fun so far, but it's also a lot of work and I love every minute I'm working on this project. This project is a graphic novel/ TV series which we are currently working to get off the ground.

I'm very honoured to be involved in this massive project, plus it's a bonus knowing that the story takes place in my home, Sydney City. One of my goals since I was a kid is to help Aussie comics grow and I hope my contribution in this project helps even just a little bit.

Synopsis:

Forced Hand tells the story of a particularly turbulent time, when the organizational structure of the most important crime organization in Sydney threatens to implode. The viewer follows long-term operative Aiden Slater through a series of events throughout the space of one year. Aiden's choices will not only mean great changes for himself, but will influence everyone around him. His is a lonely, desperate and angry life, where nothing is constant or certain; when killing or being killed is a daily probability.

Stripes is a powerful man, accustomed to getting what he wants. He is feared by most and respected by all. To prove himself trustworthy, Aiden Slater is left with no choice but to plan the murder of the only person in his life that he can trust – his partner, Colin Sullivan. However, after killing another member of his team, he realizes that killing Colin would be too difficult, but Vik Malakis is more than happy to help Aiden in his task, fueled by his personal distaste for Colin.

Aiden soon learns to live with his guilt. Seeing an opportunity to repent, he strikes a deal with the most unlikely of allies, Nathan Neuparth – a police inspector. With Neuparth’s help Aiden starts a war on the man who has made him what he is – Stripes.

However, as the new Chief Inspector, Nathan begins to feel the rest of his life spiraling out of control, he desperately tries to free himself from the forces that seek to corrupt him. I just saw the news and what's happening in Japan. This is only March and there's been so much bad thigs happened this year. I sure hope God will spare most of those poor Japanese lives. I find it selfish and heartless for those who goes out and enjoys themselves drinking, clubbing and doing whatever it is they do for entertainment, knowing that their fellow men and women are suffering from this terrible events! I'm not saying we should all be sad and make ourselves suffer as they do, but to pray and have ONE quiet night with our thoughts and respect for them. After all, we are all brothers and sisters.
If the world is ending next year as many predicted, then there's really nothing we can do apart from living our lives to the fullest and be the best person we could be.

My neck was strained a few days ago and has been a pain in the neck (pun is intended!) stopping me from my doing my usual work routine, but it's getting better now.

Hallow!

I'm pretty excited with one of the project I got going at the moment. I've been drawing comic for a while now, mainly for fun and to socialise with other artists around the globe. It has always been my number one passion, it's my number one source of inspiration!

Well, last week I just signed up a contract to illustrate 50+ page graphic novel or comic whatever you want to call it, I know a lot of people are pretty picky with the term :P It's still under radar of what it is, so I can't mention anything about it! But all I can say is that I love the script! It's really something up my alley! The deadline is fairly short for a 'one man' art team I guess, but I love challenges! I set myself a timeline, so yesterday was 'techinically' my first day. I got 6 pages inked and 6 character designs done. I'd rather go all out and not worry too much that the deadline is not another 3 months and take my time and procrastinate. The last thing I want is rush these pages knowing that I haven't done half of the comic and only have 2 weeks left! -__- So far, I'm doing alright, I just hope I can continue at this pace til the end :)

When I get the green light to show some of the work, I'll post them here.

Anyway, some of you might know one of my artwork was included in the latest issue of BITEPROOF (UK), it was an honour to have been invited as the first Aussie to be featured in the mag! www.biteproof.com You should check it out! :D

This is the art.

I think the biggest lesson I learned from this project so far, is that I am glad that I do art everyday. I think if you have a passion for something you should polish your skills and chase that dream! A lot of my friends think I'm snobbing them, that I've neglected them. In a way I am, but it's because I'm working on my art. I have to study everyday, learning from my mistakes. I just don't have much time for anything else. I just feel like if I don't draw or paint one day, there are other artists who are doing it and they're getting better eveytime they do. Maybe I'm just paranoid, I don't know.

Back in high school, there's this dude about 2 or 3 years older than me, who is just so freaking good at drawing! All he does are comic characters in pencil (as far as I know) and one day I saw one of his work of Iron man stuck on the the art class' wall. I just kept staring at it and thought, 'wow. I want to be able to do that!', to a point where I was so scared to even talk to him and ask for tips and pointers on how to be as good as him! I always thought one day he'll be working for Marvel. That was it. I never hear about him anywehere after I graduated. I even search his name in google to see his work or website, but I can never find it. I saw him in the city a while back, but just didn't know how to approach him haha! Well, I guess my point is I hope he's not wasting his awesome talent. I know people are faced with different challenges in life and what not, although I think you should still try your best to follow your dreams. Then, again maybe some people do art as a hobbie...anyway, this is just my theory, so don't pay me no mind.

Well, some of you might know that I'm one of the artist/author contributing to the upcoming sci fi/fantasy/steampunk anthology called, VELOCITY.

This 110 page book should be out in a couple of months for SUPANOVA.

This is my second try for the book, since I wasn't happy with my first. So in a way, I've made 20+ pages but will only use 10 in the book. I'm hoping to get everything done by the end of the month.

Something I did for Lupe Fiasco, one of the few last remaining 'real' hip hop artists today. I am just so sick of today's rubbish music, where everything sounds the same, no inspiring or meaningful messages in their songs, their voices sounds the same since they use auto tunes. There's a darker side to why today's music are aiming more and more towards, sex, fame and money. The image this so called 'artists' are very 'sexual especially the women, yet people wonder why more and more teenagers are getting pregnant, like there's no tomorrow. It's very scary and interesting. It's just one of the ways for us to get distracted and brainwash our children/teenagers...who are basically the future. If I have a kid of my own, I would forbid him to listen to today's radio/TV and the so called 'pop' 'rnb' and 'hip hop'. All I can say is that I'm glad I grew up in the 90's. For those who do listen to these type of music, I suggest that you do some research online of who's running the music industry today and why it's the way that it is.

Almost the end of January...already?

Where did this month go? Wow!

Been busy with things here and there. Been trying new approaches on my artistic methods.
I got a feeling next month will be even busier!

On a different note, another great young talented artist passed away today. He was only 33 years old. It really makes me sad and heartbroken when I heard about the news. Someone so passionate about his life and carreer died because of cancer. Rest in Piece Mr Clement Sauve.

The feeling I get upon hearing this tragedy is the same as when Mike Wieringo passed away. My heart just sunken. And then Satoshi Kon, Frank Frazetta...the list goes on. Great, inspired, motivated people. One thing I'm proud of is the fact that they all lived their lives to the fullest, doing what they love. I'm sure of it!

We should all be thankful for each and everyday we're alive. Whether we're going through ups or downs...be thankful. We only live once...

Anyway, here's a piece I did trying to mimic traditional painting.

I have something to say.

Alright, watched 'Black Swan' with my lady today. It was amazing as expected. Although as soon as the movie finishes and the credits are rolling, I got really annoyed. Why, oh why didn't they credit the late Satoshi Kon??? If you don't know who he is, he's a master anime director, writer, artist the whole lot...he passed away last year (RIP). Honestly, the idea behind Black Swan is basically taken for Kon's PERFECT BLUE, my favourite from him. In fact, Perfect Blue is actually better than Black Swan in my opinion, even though it's made a while ago and it's an animation. What, do they think just cos they changed the main character's occupation from a pop idol to a ballet dancer, people wouldn't notice that every aspect and psychological ideas are basically copied and pasted! Urgh! cheesed me off! Anywaaaay, go see Black Swan, because it is a great film...BUT!!! Watch PERFECT BLUE, also...that will blow you away!

On other news, I find that the world is changing...for worse. I mean, maybe it's because of the whole hype about 2012 being the end of the world and what not. They (religions, psychics etc) says that there would be signs of disasters and animals dying to name a couple as we grow closer to the 'end', natural (flooding in Queensland and Brazil now) the disgusting oil spill in the ocean by those idiots at BP or whever is in charge, birds, and I'm talking about hundreds of them found dead in Sweden, which they claim to have died because they were afraid of fireworks and plunge to death! WHAT!?? they're freakin' birds for crying out loud! They fly! If anything they would fly away to the sides or wherever but not bloody plunge down and face death! What is this bungee jumping with no ropes!? But that aside, I'm discovering more and more of how digusting and evil people are. Our neighbours in Queensland are in need of help and they're suffering and yet here in Sydney, people are fighting over money, over why they staring at their girlfriend, get into a brawl over spilt drinks (literally happend at King's Cross)...are we all BLIND!? Why can't people just be more grateful!!?? I find it disgusting that people here are making the biggest deal, because it's raining or windy or whatever it may be...is that fair to others who has lost their homes, jobs and families because of flooding?! Wake the hell up, people! It's not all about you, you know! People, we should say 'hello' and greet each other and not get angry when another person is asking you nicely to move your stupid bag from the seat on the bus, so you can also sit down. Also, put on some deodorant, I don't care where you're from! >.<

I also feel that, the elderly and adults today are not taking enough time to teach their kids or people in general how to grow up and how to respect others. Here's an example, I walked by a church yesterday and there were these two prostitues (around 40-50 yrs old) working, waiting for their 'clients' there. Wait, did I say, CHURCH? Yes, I sure did. Anyway, these two little boys, round 8 or 9 years old in their bycle was riding towards them, one of the boy had a Louis Vuitton bag on his side ( yeah, it's very sus) and one of the whor, I mean, the lady shouted; 'hey you gonna gimme that bag?!' they boys stopped and one said; 'what!?' the lady replied; 'nah, seriously...are you?!' then they started to have a conversation as I walked pass them. The last thing I heard was; 'did you get lucky yet?! then the prostitute that asked for the bag says; 'I'm always lucky'. My face was like this; (-_-) I looked back to see what they're up to and I saw the boy taking money out of the bag...

Yes, I guess this is my first rant of the year. I just need to let this out. I just feel that a lot of people need to be more nicer to one another.

NO! it doesn't mean when one of your family member/s or loved ones are dying or is sick laying at the hospital bed and you go tell the whole bloody world about it by saying some crap on social network sites like; 'my prayers for my beloved grandma, I hope you get better soon. Oh lord almighty, please help my grandma. I love you and my prayers are with you.' What, what does that even mean? Are you just saying that because you want people to feel sorry for you? You want attention? You want them to ask if you're OK? If you wanna pray, turn off your computer, throw your iPhone in the bin (if you want) and PRAY. Pray to whoever it is you worship. Between you and him. Prayers takes a lot of effort and time, not 34 seconds (I've researched this and this is the correct approximation of how long it takes to write anything. No. I didn't reseach actually, so just continue reading) typing it on your facebook status. It's not going to make you look like you're a caring person or a better person IMO. Also, did you even visit grandma? Call her? Write to her? And please don't ask her to make facebook so you can post on her wall for everyone to see what a good little girl or boy you are. Speaking of boys and girls, no...it's not cool that you have a facebook when you're still in primary school or in year 8. Go to the mirror, look at yourself for 45 seconds and say in your normal voice; 'You're not cool' and do your school work. You're 8, be 8. You're 16, be 16. Live your life as you should live it.

Wieuuhh! Alrighty, I think I feel a bit better now. Anyway, if this post makes you depressed, watch this ad. Always makes me laugh, even when I'm down. I think this is the best ad I've ever seen! :D

Yash yash yash! It's here...unexpectedly! END OF THE YEAR 2010 da da dum!!!

What can I say? It's been a pretty good year I think. Ran into some 'no good' things...but of course there are some good things also. All in all, this year has gone by so fast, it's not even funny! XD

Anyway, here's my last post of the year. Nothing much, just a few doodles of my sketchobook. I'll post more next year (2days) heh! And aan FXPOSE page of my art from the latest ImagineFX, Dungeon and Dragons special.

*note- I use mainly ballpoint pens when I doodle struddle in my sketchbook, because I don't want to be afraid of making mistakes. If I make a mistake, I deal with it and not worry so much about making it 'finished'. I also use pencil, but I don't use eraser when I make mistakes. I personally think a skecthbook should be about exploring myself as an artist and studies of the thing I see or the things I see in my head and it looks sux then it looks sux and move on and learn from that mistake when I re do the drawing/s.

My 2011 goals:

I've been really inspired by Min Yum's work more and more lately. Tops...just tops stuff! Anyway, after drooling through his site, I decided to start blinking again and do some actual work. This what came out of it. It was something completely different in the beginning. Then decided to change it as I paint along and discovered a lot of things that just wasn't working. The lightning was a mix of custom brush I d/l off the net and tweaked it. The bird was off the net too, sorry forgot where it was from. Anyway, must practice more!

A couple of storyboards frames. I've been really timing myself lately while doing storyboards/ visualising, aiming to get each panel done within a couple of hours time frame. I think if I have the composition sorted, it's just a matter of polishing it up. One of the best thing I love to do on my free time is to skecth random people at the coffee shop or at the park, it really helps when doing quick layouts and drawing people rather than going to actual figure drawing sessions. The reason is because they're not naked and they don't pose. Drawing clothed figure is tough!

Album I'm really into at the moment is 'TRON' ost by Daft Punk. These guys are just amazing, loved them since their first single was released.

I don't do much fan arts thesedays, I find that doing too many of them takes away your creativity. I think it's also much more satisfying when I create something straight from my head :) Anyway, I felt like painting Illidan Stormrage of Warcraft...awesome game indeed!

I'm sure everyone in the creative fields, whether it'd be illustration, graphic design, writer or whatever, has been through something where, someone would ask for your contribution for a project that a client/friend need to create. Then you say, 'ok cool, yeah that sounds good, I can do that!', then they say, 'awesome! I'll get you the brief and you cand over the work next week if that's ok?', then you say, 'no wories, that's possibe! I'll make sure it's just how you wanted it! Now, in terms of payment...', they cut you off, saying, 'oh, payment...right...hmm it's not really a big job, it's just an image...you can take your time on it...and we actually don't have that big of a budget...'

Silence...

I am not saying, I don't do favours or wouldn't contribute to a project where it could help client/friends etc, but it would have to be something that would also help me.

Making art is not just a hobbie thing, where one person just sits there hours after hours for the sake of loving art! Art is also a job. People make a living from it. I had a conversation with my art director at the studio where we do commercial art a couple of months back of what I mostly do on my spare time, I told him that I just do art. I gave up on a lot thing just so I can do more art! He said something along this line, ' creating something for clients, making sure that we sell their ideas and make it come to life, is what we do as commercial illustrators, that's our job. Creating something for the love of doing it and not worrying about selling it or making profit from it, that's art. Both is art, but there's a slight difference.'

I create art for me.
I also work for clients.

Business woman and putting names on your work

Anyway, something I wanna point out is that, I think it's important to always, always write your name or jot down your site address on all your artowork when you upload them online. I had a few incidents when people saw my work on google and asked for commissions or info about it. With millions of work online, luck also plays apart. One told me, he was looking for a long time to find out who I am, since the artwork he came accross to didn't have my name on it. Well, thought I let you guys know.

Smith- film illustrations

A couple of months back, I did these illustrations for a short film that's going to be screened tomorrow night at AFTRS theatre, Fox Studio! Woop! :D
I figured, it should be ok to show now.

They wanted manga illustrations that will actually be incorporated in the movie, since the main character loves reading comics.

Ok, so some of you might already know that I've been invited to join a super awesome and cool anthology called, VELOCITY. Velocity is all about, sci fi, fantasy and steampunk. The anthology involves artists from Australia and South Africa, from what I saw, these guys are freakin' good! I'm very privileged to be amongst them A couple of them are artists I really admire, people like Jon Sommariva, whom I met a while ago when I was about 16 years old at a comic convention and he's working for a US comic publisher. The other is Daniel Clarke, a concept artist from SA. This dude is really talented! Good to see him involved in this project. A lot of talented peeps here!

Anyway, I'm still working on my concepts for the book and I've done a few character designs and style sheet. I'll be posting them here, so keep an eye out. Ok, this is the first style sheet I've done.

A piece I recently did based on Australia's favorite sport. I figured that this sport will be played even after the apocalypse, hence the gas masks. During an interview for a job (which I got :D yoop!) I had last week, the lovely interviewer told me that I have an obsession with gas masks -_- haha! I never realised 'til that day! I guess I do! They look so fair dinkum/awesome! When I do get my own studio, I'll definitely buy one to hang on the wall! Anyway, enough about gas masks!

Also, yesterday I scored a wicked book 'Moebius' a collection of short comics' for under $30! It's in chinese, but I don't care!! It's Moebius we're talking about here!

The Ronin

Sick as a dog. That's me. The last 5 or 6 days I've suffered from so many types of symptoms -_- very urgh!
First, exhausted, sore throa, itchy throat, flu, fever, cough and of course the good ol' headache!!! I've never sneezed so many times in my life in a space less than a week! It was such a pleasant week! haha! Anyway on other news, yesterday I spent all day with my girlfriend's family, eating lunch, going to museum and sight seeing. I was still sick, although I think running around chasing little kids around helped me fight the virus! Sweat is good! it was awesomely fun to and great way for me to unwind! I think a couple more days of rest and I'll feel better.
Here's a piece I did a couple of days ago at the studio. I was feeling bad and couldn't stare at the computer screen for too long, hurts my eyes! So, I whip out my ink and brush and nib and tissue (for my nose as well as for the art). Drew this baby to the beat of the music that was playing on the background, which was collection of Motown music at the time. I think it actually helps conveys the movements and energy I tried to portray, since I was drawing it like a weirdo, bopping my head and shaking my bum. Scan it and color it up quickly in photoshop.

This piece is sort of a hit and people ask if I do prints of it, so I uploaded it on my redbubble if anyone is interested.

I will also start taking commisions for ORIGINAL TRADITIONAL ARTWORKS very soon. That's right, I will be sending the REAL piece, not just the digital scan. An idea I had after someone from overseas asked me if I do commissions on original drawing. Ofcourse any questions just shoot me an email.

Last night I was very inspired by Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton (Master Painters), so I did this painting...trying to mimic their style of oil painting. Almost gave up dong the tree in the beginning, I'm glad I didn't though. It was tough trying to paint the 'oil' look, but I'm gonna practice more in doing this sort of style.

Yeah, been blogging for over a year now...mainly crap haha! Although, that was the purpose of me blogging in the first place right? :P Nothing significant here, Just a couple of art that I have in my laptop. I have come to realise that I haven't done much traditional art lately (2 months or so), so I decided that this week I will have to prodice something for myself done in pencil and ink! On Tuesday night, I had one of my artwork chosen to be displayed at Hardware gallery. So this year I've done 3 group exhibitions, hopefully next year I would be abe to have a solo exhibition. On other news, I'm happy to say that I got signed yesterday with a creative group based in Sydney CBD. It's great since they only cater for Sydney's based agencies and companies, so I don't have to travel too far if I have to work 'in house'. I'm also planning to attend more figure drawing classes as well as teaching myself 3D, or even going back to school and learn 3D there.

Rendezvous

A piece I did for visualising aimed to hint enough stuff in the image to tell a story. I had the idea just before I left the studio, so I quickly sketched it and when I got home I worked on it and refined it the next day. It's one of those things that you just thought about and couldn't wait to just do it while the idea is still fresh in your mind! Well...maybe I'm just weird!

Anyway, here's a walkthrough of the process for those who may be interested:
Sketch:
The only reference I used was for the girl. I feel like I don't really have to look at reference if I think what I'm doing is correct (in my head that is haha!). I needed to get reference on the girl because I wanted to draw a beautiful woman wearing a dress. I don't have a backless dress...I only have back covered ones! :D Composition was already set in my mind. As I said, I had this image already in my head, don't know where it's from, but it' s there!

Linework:
Not much to say, except that this is a very important stage. If the linework don't work, then the whole thing would just screw up!

Color scheme:
I literally spend 2 minutes on this stage. Grab a huge brush and just run it through the linework. Obviously thinking of where the lights sources are coming from. As you can see, a lot has changed from this comor scheme to the final image.

(The color got all messed up everytime I post here, so forgive me for the crappy quality) >:D
Added texture and got feedback from my art director/studio mate. I have to be honest, I could work on it some more, but I know that it's important to know when to stop. Plus my eyes were telling me to stop staring at the computer screen!

Just thought I'd let you know about a new horror film called, THE TUNNEL. It's still being shot at the moment and should be ready to show the the world in month or so. I have seen the trailer and screenshots and it looks awesome! The producers and Director are a few of the nicest people I've met and very talented.

What's up with that!?

Yep...my shoulder is hurting me. I know it's because of drawing/painting. On average, I would draw and paint 12 hrs on weekedays and 6 hrs on weekends. I stopped working early last night because I noticed the pain on my arm/shoulder was getting worse. When I woke up the pain was still there. I couldn't even do my weekend routine of morning sketching at Gloria Jeans! I decided, I better just stop and rest my arm, before it gets worse! Anyway on thing led to another (ha ha) I went to comic shope and picked up these bad boys:
Last-Days-of-American-Crime
Greg Tocchini, he's just a beast! All artwork done by him and he does it so well done! Rick Remender's writing is like something out of Scorsese's film! This comic is just packed with action, violence and sex! I love it! 10/10! I bet you this comic will be turned into a movie sooner or later! Yep!

Astonishing Xmen
I haven't read Xmen comics for a long time! But, this one is the director's cut! Which means, bonus script and behind the scenes artworks! The artist is Karee 'the always impresses me with his variations of styles' Andrews. This dude, is always changing and always evolving. I love that in an artist, someone who could vary his/her work to cater specific look, without making it look like it was 'forced'. He does, catoon style, realistic and whatever! I had to pick up the book mainly because of him! That's not all though. Warren Elis is the writer! Who doesn't know him!? The colorist also delivers the perfect look over Karee's inks! Worth picking up!

Ok, so that's it for today! I'm gonna go read the piles of comics on the floor and maybe watch a movie. I don't want to, but I have to. I wanna draw soon, so I'll go and rest now.

Log Monster

Done for artorder challenge. Spent a while on the lineworks, so the coloring was a breeze...sort of. Anyway, it was a lot of fun! Needed to take a bit of a break from doing visualising/storyboards stuff! :)

I basically did a couple of little crappy sketches to start with, by the third one, I got the pose and composition I was aiming for.
The 'limbs' and 'muscles' of the log monster was pretty much done as I go along with the drawing, so it was pretty fun for me to make them up as what I think will work haha! In a way it's like drawing the human anatomy. The coloring was done fairly simple, so it doesn't fight with the line work and which would make the whole image to be too 'busy'.

Hello bloggers,
So, I'm sitting here with a bowl of noodles, meatballs and choy sum (yes it sounds delicious and it is delicious!) and felt like updating this little blog o' mine! Actually I don't feel so good at the moment...bleh! Anywaaay, so what's new? last week I did some concept work with a couple of my studio mates (Sam and Pawel) unfortunately they don't have a site just yet but they're 2 very talented dudes. It was pretty full since we had to do it on the spot right there and then but was fun! Did a tee design for a horror film, which is coming out soon, not sure if I'm allowed to say yet. I'm also working on a new piece for a group exhibition, got tons of reference pics from my beautiful girlfriend which were really helpful :) ahh...free life model hehe! Should be done soon. Been trying to get some work done for a project me and my friend, Carlo Ledesma are creating, just need to get a couple of things out of the way first. Very exciting! :)

Goodbye Mr.Satoshi Kon

What a great loss...
For those who hasn't heard the sad news, The great Satoshi Kon has passed away due to cancer on august 24th 2010.
I have been a big fan of his directing and anime since the first time I laid my eyes on 'Perfect Blue'. He has been a really big inspiration for me and my art. I know his spirit and inspirartions will live on forever.
for those who hasn't seen his beautiful masterpieces, please do yourself a favour and indulge your eyes and mind on;
Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, Tokyo Godfather, Paprika and Paranoia Agent (series).

..well, some. There are tons more artists that really inspires me, these are just the major ones and ones I'm really into right at this moment. As you can see, the ones with the big squares are those who uses a lot of ink in their work. That goes for AKIRA too, the Manga is just as inspiring for me as the anime. There's a few there that I look up too growing and still do.
It's always great to see other people's influences and it'd be good if you could share it with me also.

Hey, hope everyone's well!
Ahh...what a lazy sunday...but no time for that! Here's a piece I did last night. It's a self portrait based on one of my photos.

A couple of weeks back, the talented and super nice guy Dave Follet, who is also from Watermark studio came to visit us and we had lunch, took some photos acting like idiots and he showed us a trick or two of creating his art. Ink relaxes me...

I have been doing a lot of digital stuff lately ( even though I haven't/can't really show them here yet) and after a while, it gets a bit much for me and one way for me to take a 'break' from it is to do some ink work. So, on friday as soon as I reached the studio I pulled out my brush and ink and whip up this piece. Thanks for looking. GH

Exhibition

I was lucky enough to get my art accepted to be a part of an upcoming art exhibition. It's the biggest thing I've ever worked on!
I'll post he photos up when it's done.

The whole world is scared of China making 'black hearted goods'.

Can you differentiate which one is made in the USA , Philippines , Taiwan or China ? For your Information ... the first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code wherein the product was made.

For Example : all barcodes that start with 690.691.692 until 695 are all MADE IN CHINA.

471 is Made in Taiwan.

This is our human right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'Made in China', so they don't show from which country it’s made.

However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits are 690 to 695, then it is Made in China .

WATCH WHAT YOU BUY. ESPECIALLY HIGHLINER FISH PRODUCTS; all come from China , even though the box says ' product of Canada ', it is from China and 'processed' in Canada , that is, the coating is added and packaged in Canada only! The fish are raised in pens using chemicals that are banned in Canada as cancer causing but legal in China. This was exposed on CBC TV's Marketplace.

This one will make you think before buying anything from China .

Well, are you enjoying seeing Chinese food popping up in your supermarket left and right? Have you noticed you can't buy a single package of fish that isn't made in China (or Vietnam )? Do you think your food from China is processed in a sanitary manner, and thus safe to eat? Take a look at this!!

Avoid buying all processed food packaged in China Anything goes! We just don't know what else is in those packages. Unlike in the U.S. And CANADA , China does not have laws regulating food processing.

Basically, do not buy any processed food from China , also Hong Kong , too. MANY companies are using a Hong Kong address to avoid this type of image reputation.

Early dawn, starts the day by riding around to collect dead chickens.

Total of 5 riders are hired by the boss to ride to farms to buy dead chickens.

A dead chicken cost 1 RMB and would be sold at 9 RMB after processing.

Storage for the dead chickens in the court yard.

Carcasses are thrown everywhere.

Four employees start de-feathering the dead fowl after soaking in boiling water from a rusty wok.

Enduring the pungent odor, but sometime, it get so terrible that even the most experienced of the workers would puke.
